About FAVAH
What is FAVAH?
The Film and Video Association of Hawaii (FAVAH) is a not-for-profit professional organization dedicated to the advancement of the motion picture, video and allied production industries.
A strong voice and advocate since 1989, FAVAH’s triple mission is to provide support, education, and outreach for the industry
FAVAH: Film and Video Association of Hawaii is
“The corporation is organized and operated exclusively for non-profit common business interests within the meaning of Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code; including for such purposes:
(A) Assisting in fostering the common interests of those engaged in the motion picture, video and allied production industries in the United States, and especially in the State of Hawaii;
(B) Establishing and maintaining the highest possible moral, artistic and business standards in motion picture, video and allied production industries;
(C) Developing the educational as well as the entertainment value and general usefulness of the motion picture and allied forms;
(D) Disseminating accurate and reliable information with reference to the industry;
(E) Reforming abuses relative to the industry;
(F) Promoting and encouraging the enactment of just and reasonable laws and ordinances affecting the motion picture, video and allied production industries, and to oppose the enactment of laws that would be unjust and unreasonable;
(G) Formulating and maintaining ethical standards for the guidance of its members in their relations with each other and with the public, government and labor…“
SUMMARY OF INTERESTS:
(in no particular order, some overlaps)
1. Watchdog legal reform , stop abuses, monitor legislature
2. Advocacy be the statewide voice of the production industry, promote Advisory ethical standards, be a liaison between industry and government, lobby legislature for tax breaks, grants, etc. Generally improve quality and quantity of our work and environment
3. Education be an educational resource, and promote relevant education for outselves, government and the public
4. Networking Be a central communication point for industry. Provide access to information, provide a forum for ideas, link the industry together, promote interaction.
5. Promotion Improve Hawaii’s profile, provide link between local production community and (outside) production companies, provide information and assistance to (outside) productions.
Specific Projects / Activities:
“Address the differing needs of local productions –v—nonlocal productions”
“Work with public television to develop a ‘space’ where local productions can be shown”
“Lobby the legislature to remove stumbling blocks to production”
